Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Galmudug State registered its first win in the Somali Regional Football tournament after defeating Jubaland 3-2 in a dramatic comeback.

The first half ended with Jubaland leading with a score of 2-0, goals from Abdulfatah Siyad in the 30th minute, and Bakar Sheikh in the 33rd minute.

Sayid Omar scored a stunning header in the 48th minute, reviving the hopes of Galmudug players. Dini Mohamed equalized in the 79th minute victory before Abdallah Sheikh secured the three points for Galmudug in the 87th minute.

This victory places Galmudug State at the top of the table with four points.

In their previous match, Galmudug played against Hirshabelle in a game that gathered over 46,000 fans and ended in a draw.

Benadir Region which is the host of the tournament, falls second in the table after their win against Southwest State on Monday.

Puntland State, which achieved success in the competition by winning one and reaching a final in the past three years, decided not to participate in the tournament.

Mogadishu Football Stadium, with a capacity of estimated 60,000, was built by the Chinese Government in 1978.

The stadium was occupied by the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in 2011 after being liberated from the Al-Shabaab terrorist group. AMISOM handed over the responsibility of the stadium to the Somali authorities in 2019.
