The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has invited former Somali leaders for a meeting scheduled to take place from 12th July to 14th July. The primary objective of this gathering is to facilitate discussions and exchange insights regarding the achievements, challenges, and future plans of the Somali government.

The President also seeks to leverage the knowledge and expertise of the former leaders, particularly in the areas of security, counter-terrorism, and the completion of the constitution.

In a tweet, the Villa Somalia announced, “H.E. @HassanSMohamud invites former Somali leaders for a consultative meeting to share achievements, challenges, and future plans. The president will hear the insights of former leaders on security, counter-terrorism, completion of the constitution review & democratization.”

Several prominent figures, including former prime ministers Hassan Ali Kheyre, Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas, and Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, have responded to the invitations and arrived in Mogadishu for the meeting.

This conference is taking place at a critical juncture for Somalia. The country finds itself in a political impasse following the agreement reached by the National Council Agreement in Baidoa. There have been recent conflicts that erupted in most of the regions in the country, including Puntland, Gedo, and Hiiraan. However, the fight against Al-Shabaab is still ongoing, as the government forces, together with the local forces, have made significant progress in recent weeks.
