Dhusamareb(Mogadishu24)-The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, reiterated his government’s commitment to completely eliminate Al-Shabaab militants from the country within less than two years.He shared this during a Public engagement session in Dhusamareb on Thursday night, where he engaged in a question and answer session.President Hassan addressed the government’s ongoing efforts in the offensive operation against Al-Shabaab and highlighted the that more than 75 locations were recovered from the militant group.“The fight against Al-Shabaab, the enemies of the Somali people, is ongoing and has achieved significant results. Through the offensive war against the militants, the National Army, supported by our international security partners, has liberated more than 75 locations that are now under our control,” the President stated.He further emphasized that the complete elimination of Al-Shabaab militants from the country will take less than two years.“The future is not predetermined; we have planned and hope that our plan works well. According to the government’s plan, we will totally eliminate Al-Shabaab from the country in less than two years. We are determined to eliminate them within a shorter period,” President Hassan added.Apart from the offensive against Al-Shabaab, the President mentioned the government’s active involvement in an anti-corruption campaign aimed at curbing the widespread theft of public funds.“We are not only fighting against Al-Shabaab but also against corruption, which has become a disease within our government. We will hold everyone involved in corruption accountable,” he emphasized.President Hassan is currently in Dhusamareb for an unspecified duration to intensify the second phase of the war against Al-Shabaab, known as the ‘Black Lion Operation,’ and to mobilize the local community against the militant group.
