Dhusamareb(Mogadishu24)-Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud reiterated the government’s commitment to the offensive against Al-Shabaab militants on Thursday.

The president stated that the war is in its final stages, with the group eradicated from most of the areas they previously controlled.

He issued a stern warning against engaging with the Al-Shabaab group, stating that those who support or collaborate with them for tribal reasons are part of the threats posed by the terrorist organization.

“The individuals providing support to Al-Shabaab are effectively aiding in its destructive actions and contributing to the suffering caused by the very group they support,” President Hassan said.

He added that those who provide financial support to the group will be held accountable.

“We should distance ourselves from such individuals, including those providing financial support to Al-Shabaab due to their tribal affiliations. Anyone found guilty of this offence will be held accountable,” he added.

The president also urged the Somali people to stay away from areas still controlled by the militant group to allow the security forces to continue their efforts to fully eliminate the group from the country.

The president noted that Al-Shabaab’s connections had been completely cut, affecting their source of income.

President Hassan is currently stationed in Dhusamareb, the administrative capital of Galmudug State, for nearly two months to scale up the second phase of the war against Al-Shabaab.

In the past few weeks, Al-Shabaab terrorists have attacked Somali National Army bases in Cowsweyne, El-Lahelay, and Run Nirgod, killing dozens of SNA soldiers.

These attacks have sparked public anger and calls for the president to take action against the Minister of Defence and Army chiefs, who have been accused of being responsible for the military failures
