Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Thursday evening welcomed the election of the country to a seat on the United Nations Security Council for 2025-2026, describing it to diplomatic achievement.

The President said that such success would show the development and the statehood of our country, highlighting plans that guide Somali voices in the International scene based on safeguarding peace and strengthening cooperation.

“This diplomatic success in which we have gained today, interprets how the international community is witnessing efforts and development of Somalia, in particular, recovering and rebuilding of our country. It is an opportunity that we can avail for taking part the peace and global security”, President Hassan said in a statement.

He thanked all member states in the UN Security Council, the region and the continent that supported Somalia’s request of non-perminent UN Security Council, mentioning this is a vital opportunity which could enable the country to take a active role security issues and world peace.

This is the second time, Somalia was elected as a member of the UN Security Council, it served the UN body in 1970-1981
