Somali President vows to hold direct election, fight Al-Shabaab

Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sh. Mohamud vowed to holding direct elections after his term and continue fighting against Al-Shabaab during his speech at European Day.

“One person, one vote will be the uncompromising goal that the Somalia of today has, and the fight against Al-Shabaab, the President emphasized, “Despite persistent challenges, we are determined to intensify our efforts, with a clear strategy to assume more security responsibilities”, the President said.

The President reiterated the Somalia government’s unwavering resolve to build accountable institutions and hold direct national elections, emphasizing efforts to intensify the fight against Al-Shabaab with a clear strategy to assume more security responsibilities.

Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre also expressed Government’s commitment to holding one person, one vote model in the coming election in the country, despite challenges of security and political instability a week earlier, but it is not known it could be possible as Al-Shabaab controls large swathes of the country.
