Somalia’s Special Forces, (Gor-gor) on Tuesday morning conducted an operation in Galcad district in Galgadud region and thwarted explosive attacks by Al-Shabaab militants successfully.

The Gorgor commandos, specifically the 7th and 9th units of the 18th battalion, led the special operation, advancing into the areas of Ceel Xaji and Cel Dhiigtaan.

Gor-gor Unit Commander, Mahad Iman provided insight into the operation’s objectives, emphasizing their primary goal of pursuing and neutralizing the remaining elements of the extremist group, Al-Shabaab.

Mr. Iman revealed the successful detection and defusing of landmines planted by Al-Shabaab on the roads leading to and from the district. He affirmed their commitment to continue activities in the region and urged residents to cooperate with the government forces.

Galcad, one of the cities that was liberated from Al-Shabaab earlier this year, has experienced occasional violent attacks. However, the Galgaduud and Mudug regions are currently witnessing a determined final push to completely eradicate the presence of Al-Shabaab in the region.
