Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Somali Government has on Saturday extended congratulations to the United Kingdom’s Labour Party and its leader, Keir Starmer, on their recent general election victory. Both Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud praised the Labour Party’s triumph and expressed optimism for the future of Somalia-UK relations under the new leadership.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre conveyed his congratulations via social media:

“I extend my sincere congratulations to Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the Labour Party on their triumph in the UK general election. The Somali government and its people cherish our partnership with Britain and are eager to strengthen our bond under the new leadership.”

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also shared his sentiments:

“Warm congratulations to the UK Labour Party and the new UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, on their electoral victory today. The United Kingdom remains a valuable ally and friend of Somalia. We look forward to further strengthening the strong bilateral relations between Somalia and the UK and exploring new avenues for cooperation to advance our shared interests.”

The United Kingdom has been a key donor country supporting Somalia in various sectors, including counter-terrorism, humanitarian aid, and development projects. The Somali Government anticipates that the new UK administration will continue to be a vital partner in these areas, fostering growth and stability in Somalia.
