Brussels (Mogadishu24) – The Acting Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Mr. Ali Mohamed Omar, attended on Friday (February 2) the 3rd EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum held in Brussels, Belgium.

In his remarks at the forum, the Acting Foreign Minister stressed Somalia’s firm commitment to addressing global issues in partnership with EU Indo-Pacific countries. He emphasized Somalia’s proactive efforts to enhance climate, environmental, political, economic, and societal resilience while promoting security and stability in accordance with international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.

Acting Foreign Minister Ali Omar emphasized the need for Ethiopia to respect international law and uphold Somalia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, urging Addis Ababa to play a constructive role in addressing regional challenges rather than fueling new tensions in East Africa.

At the forum, the Acting Foreign Minister engaged in bilateral discussions with the heads of delegations from Djibouti, Egypt, Kenya, Mauritius, South Africa, and Tanzania, articulating Somalia’s concerns regarding Ethiopia’s actions that infringe upon Somalia’s sovereignty and international norms.

During the forum, Acting Foreign Minister Ali Omar conducted sideline meetings aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and fostering cooperation with senior government officials, including H.E. Ms. Luminița Odobescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, H.E. Ms. Tanja Fajon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia, and H.E. Mr. Giorgos Gerapetritis, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Greece.
