The company has signed a $220 million investment in green energy projects.Mohamed Sadiq, Director of International Relations for BECO, stated that the company’s investment of $170 million aimed to provide electricity access to every household in Somalia, thus facilitating the day-to-day activities of the Somali people.“BECO has invested $170 million in Somalia’s electricity network in the past few years. This was part of our plan to provide electricity access to every household in Somalia, easing the day-to-day activities of the Somali people,” explained Mohamed Sadiq, Director of International Relations for BECO.Moreover, BECO has signed a $220 million investment in green energy projects, showing its dedication to serving Somalia and achieving their specific objectives.“As part of BECO’s plan to reach its objectives and provide quality electricity services, we have recently signed a $220 million investment project in green energy,” he added.Eng. Mohamud, the Chief Technical Officer of BECO, revealed that thirty percent of the company’s electricity production currently comes from renewable sources. However, they plan to increase this figure to seventy percent by 2024 to meet the growing demand for electricity connections.“BECO currently generates 30% of its production from renewable sources. However, due to the growing demand for electricity connections, we are planning to expand our electric production from renewable energy to 70% by 2024,” Eng. Mohamud stated.Established in 2014 as a private company, BECO has become Somalia’s largest electricity provider, offering services in regions like Benadir, Jubbaland, Hirshabelle, and the Southwest. BECO supplies electricity to all 17 districts in the Benadir region, including critical locations such as Aden Adde Airport, Mogadishu port, and various embassies.BECO’s efforts have successfully reduced the cost of electricity, making it more affordable for households and contributing to the overall economic development of Somalia.
