Al-Shabaab militants have on Friday launched simultaneous attacks targeted at multiple locations, resulting in the tragic loss of three lives.

The attacks took place at the Wargadud Police Station, Elwak Kenya Defence Forces camp, Iresuki Safaricom mast, and Jabi Quick Response Unit (QRU) camp, in Mandera County. Among the victims were two police officers and a teacher.

The militants vandalized the Police station, destroyed two Safaricom masts, and took possession of a police Land Cruiser.

According to local sources, the attack occurred at around 1:40 am on Friday and lasted less than 10 minutes before the militants fled the scene.

According to a senior police officer who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed extent of the damage caused by the attack.

“Two police officers and one teacher were killed in a Wargadud attack, two telecommunication masts located in Wargadud and Iresuki were destroyed, and a Landcruiser is missing,” the officer claimed.

On Thursday, the militants attacked a military base in Geriley, not far from El-Wak, in Gedo region of Somalia. The base was recently handed over to the Somali National Army by the Kenya troops serving as part of the Africa Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) forces.

This incident comes just a week after the Kenya Police Special Operations Group engaged in a fierce battle, resulting in the death of 20 Al-Shabaab militants in Ogorweine, Mandera County.
