Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu on Thursday hosted largest people making protests against the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ethiopian Government and the breakaway republic of Somaliland, leasing 20 kilometers sea access to Ethiopia on January 1st, 2024The protesters were from the 17th districts in Benadir region and they took major streets and roads in the capital Mogadishu while holding banners written, ‘Our sea is not for sale‘Government Ministers, Federal Parliament Members and Mogadishu mayor joined the demonstrators at Daljir-ka monument and Km-4 junction later, expressing their feeling to defend the country any aggression outside the country.“The Somali people are ready to defend their country, they never accept to sell an inch of our land”, Somali Minister of Education, Farah Sheikh Addukadir said at the rally.“Today, in Mogadishu, Thousands of Somalis gathered to protest against the violation of Somalia’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity by Abiy Ahmed’s administration. The demonstrators also expressed their strong opposition to his territorial ambitions. This demonstration has revitalized the spirit of Somali nationalism and solidarity with the government, as the Somali people remain vigilant in their determination to protect their land from foreign greed”, Abdirahman Abdishakur, Mp said.The Somali Government refuted the MoU firmly and described it to be null and void and recalled its Ambassador to Ethiopia.
